2011 was a fabulous year for jewellery. Trends ranged from stacking bangles (also known as the “arm party”), to large stone necklaces, and bold earrings. Vintage-inspired pieces were also popular, as well as edgy, modern jewels. Elizabeth Taylor’s jewellery collection — auctioned off this past month — was a memorable occasion for jewellery lovers everywhere proving that fashion jewels may come and go, but fine jewellery and gorgeous gemstones never go out of style.

Here we’ve rounded up a list of our top 10 favourite jewels of 2011. We can’t wait to see what the new year brings!

	Sofia Vergara Sofia Vergara set off her bright coral gown with jaw-dropping emerald earrings by Lorraine Schwartz at the 2011 Emmy Awards. Sofia’s earrings had a lacy peacock feather motif that made them as artful as they were vibrant.
	Kate Middleton Kate Middleton wore earrings were created by designer Robinson Pelham on her wedding day. The earrings feature the oakleaf and acorn motif of Kate’s new family crest. They were a gift from Duchess Catherine’s parents, Carol and Michael Middleton.
	Natalie Portman Natalie Portman had the best drops of the evening at the 2011 SAG Awards. They were more than 27-carats of fancy yellow diamonds from Tiffany, valued at $2 million.

	Anna Torv Anna Torv wore divine ruby earrings to the 2011 Emmy’s.
	Taylor Swift Taylor Swift adorned the most envy-inducing emerald earrings at the 2011 AMA’s. The bright green color could be spotted from yards away and looked especially lively against her sleek ponytail (a refreshing choice).
	Amy Adams At this year’s Oscars, Amy Adams wore emerald jewellery by Cartier.
	Scarlett Johansson Scarlett Johansson wears a intricate ruby ring by Anna Hu Haute Joaillerie at the 2011 Oscars.
	Blake Lively Blake Lively sported statement drop earrings in turquoise and gold that gave a graphic edge to her 60s style at this year’s Teen Choice Awards.
	Kim Kardashian Kim Kardashian wears a striking snake cuff by Lorraine Schwartz at the 2011 Grammy Awards. The coils of the serpent are platinum set with fancy coloured diamonds.

World Presentation of Haute Horlogerie

The 18th edition of the WPHH - World Presentation of Haute Horlogerie – has just closed its doors on 5 highly successful and well-attended days. The event attracted a significant increase in attendance compared with last year. With 7,000 visitors from all over the world, both professionals and members of the international press enjoyed an exhibition that has once again strengthened and energised the world of Haute Horlogerie.

The Group’s nine marques - Franck Muller, Pierre Kunz, ECW, Barthelay, Rodolphe, Backes & Strauss, Martin Braun, Pierre Michel Golay and Smalto Timepieces – declared their great satisfaction with the business generated and with the positive mood felt at the conclusion of the event. The “Giga Tourbillon” by Franck Muller – an exceptional timepiece enhanced by a gigantic 20mm-diameter tourbillon – the “Clean Sweep” by Pierre Kunz, the new cases from ECW, the new “Ladybird” by Barthelay or the Backes & Strauss “Piccadilly Princess”, the “Mysterious Chronographe Tourbillon” by Pierre Michel Golay and finally the “Symphony of Colors” by Smalto Timepieces... all new designs exhibited by the various marques and received enthusiastically by buyers and international journalists alike.

Now in its fourteenth year, the WPHH has confirmed its position as an independent watchmaking salon with this event, one of the most significant on the Haute Horlogerie calendar. The next WPHH will be held in Monaco at the Grimaldi Forum from 30 September to 2 October 2011. A major event which not to be missed for professionals in the sector and the press.
