DISCOVER THE PANTONE SPRING/SUMMER 2021 COLOUR PALETTE

With spring around the corner, it’s time to explore the beautiful hues that Pantone has predicted will set the tone for the upcoming summer. For more than 20 years, Pantone has been the expert on colours within the creative realm and the global leader in colour standards for the fashion industry. The colour giant influences jewellery designers and fashion experts with their trend forecasting and you can be sure that Pantone had something to do with the latest blues and greens craze you’ve been seeing in our stores.

Envisioning the empowering and harmonious shades colour offers, Pantone’s 2021 colour chart follows a theme of vibrant brights and calming neutrals.

Before we have a look at our favourite selection of stones that will set the tone for the summer ahead, let’s have a look at Pantone’s colour of the year.

Exploring Pantone’s Colour Of The Year

Usually, Pantone selects one main colour as their colour of the year and the rest of the palette is complementary hues. However, this year they selected two main colours, Illuminating and Ultimate Grey.

ILLUMINATING

A bright yellow colour. Described as friendly and joyful, an optimistic yellow, offering the promise of a sunny day. We see this bright hue in the fashion world in brands like Dolce Gabbana, Zimmerman, Prada and a few more. Gemstones that match Illuminating are yellow diamonds, yellow sapphire, citrine, golden beryl, yellow topaz and fire opals.

Our favourite take on the vivid yellow hue is our beautiful Princess Cut Yellow Diamond in White Gold.

ULTIMATE GREY

Pantone describes this hue as assuring and reliable. This neutral hue also encourages composure and dependability which lends itself to the idea that you are grounded. Ultimate Grey can be showcased with gemstones like diamonds, moonstone, agate, Tahitian pearl just to name a few.

Our Ultimate Grey inspired jewellery piece is the stunning Halo Diamond Ring in White Gold.

The Story Behind Pantone’s Colours Of The Year

The inspiration behind these colours are the ways in which people seek to strengthen themselves physically and emotionally to overcome the uncertainty the pandemic has brought with it. These colour combinations highlight the importance of being seen and being inspired to move forward in new and positive ways as described by the executive director of the Pantone Colour Institute:

“The union of an enduring Ultimate Gray with the vibrant yellow Illuminating expresses a message of positivity supported by fortitude. Practical and rock-solid but at the same time warming and optimistic, this is a colour combination that gives us resilience and hope. We need to feel encouraged and uplifted; this is essential to the human spirit”.

Other Stand Out Colours For This Summer

Inspired by Pantone’s colour trends for 2021, here are a few other hues we love and which you can incorporate in your fashion and accessories this summer:

LAVA FALLS.

With its vigorous red hue and dynamic presence, it’s perfectly clear why this is one of Pantone’s most popular hues in the fashion and jewellery world. Gemstones that resemble this passionate hue include garnets, rhodolites, rubies, red tourmaline and red zircon.

Our Lava Falls inspired jewellery masterpieces can be seen below:

IBIZA BLUE

Now for a cooler hue, the Ibiza blue. This hue is a quiet and restful brisk blue that mimics the beautiful waters of Ibiza. Giving tropical vibes and good moods we understand why this is a fashion week favourite – especially for the new season. Blue sapphire, topaz, blue tourmaline, tanzanite and aquamarine are gemstones that illustrate this deep hue.

LIME ZEST

The wondrous, tasteful green hue is a symbol of growth – and very popular in the likes of Dolce Gabbana, Elie Saab and Prada. In particular, this flamboyant hue is our favourite for Spring! Best of all it can be beautifully paired with the birthstone of Augustus – the Peridot.

Interesting fact: the Peridot is believed to increase happiness and brings forth the best version of your life. How beautiful is that?

How Does Pantone Influence The Fashion And Jewellery Industry?

Pantone Colour Institute works with fashion and jewellery designers and companies by providing colour information, trends and palette recommendations to help them design beautiful items for the coming seasons.

Best described by the vice president of Pantone Color Institute, Laurie Pressman; “Society is increasingly recognising colour as a communication form and a way to symbolise thoughts and ideas. As such, designers and brands are embracing this language of colour to engage and connect”.

This is evident in a recent study on Instagram – the hashtag “PANTONE2021” resulted in a whopping 136,435 posts that featured an array of jewellery, makeup, hair and fashion trends that feature the dynamic 2021 colour palette. This indicates people’s interest in the colours and finding ways to style with it.

Amidst the massive interest in the colour hues, it’s clear why fashion houses and jewellery brands follow suit to use these magnificent colours.
